Willem Struben is a Dutch economist who, after working for the Government of Suriname for 3 years, was an operations and social sector specialist in the World Bank in Washington, DC for 28 years, including 3-year assignments in Tokyo and Jakarta. Afterward, he continued to work as a part-time social sector consultant for the World Bank and, since 2005, as a volunteer project advisor for PTF. His current work continues to focus on project identification, design, and monitoring, with emphasis on establishing and strengthening civil society’s involvement in governance and anti-corruption activities.

He is an economics and business administration graduate of RUG (University of Groningen), with subsequent public budgeting and procurement courses at Harvard University and the World Bank. He has extensive experience in dealing with government and civil society organizations in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
